RainForest Animals Concept Map




Rainforest Animals

I.       Mammals

Mammals are warm-blooded, have a vertebrae and a four-chambered heart.  They also have hair, in which covers the skin.  Also, all mothers produce milk for nourishing their young; milk is produced by mammary glands.  Mammals range from an inch and a half (bumble bee bat) to 108 feet (blue whale).

II.     Reptiles

All reptiles are cold-blooded and lay eggs.  They are covered in leathery, like skin, such as, horny plates or scales.  Reptiles are able to breathe by means of lungs.  This group of animals transport by slivering, crawling, and creeping.

A.    Boa Constrictor

B.    Anaconda

III.    Amphibians

Amphibians are cold-blooded animals that have smooth skin.  They hatch an aquatic larva to produce their young.  When amphibians hatch, they transform and have gills.  After full development, amphibians are capable of living on land or water and have both gills and lungs.

B.    Red-eyed tree Frog

IV.    Arthropods

Arthropods can be found in every environment; land, trees, water, and the ground.  Arthropods have an exoskeleton and segmented bodies, as well as jointed appendages.  Arthropods happen to be the largest animal group.  This group consists of: insects, arachnids, and crustaceans.  All arthropods have six or more legs.

B.    Leafcutter Ant

V.     Birds

Birds are bipedal, meaning they have two feet.  All birds are warm-blooded and lay eggs.  All birds have feathers, as well as wings to help them fly.  Birds can range from 2 inches to 9 feet tall.

A.    Parrot

B.    Toucan

1.    This bird lives in holes of hollow trees.

2.  Toucans are located in Central and South America in
tropical and sub-tropical rainforests.

- Color sheets to remember the colors of the animals
- Make an ant farm
- Guess the Rainforest animal sound
- Bingo
- Create paper plate animals

  2. Everything is very clear and easy to read. I love all the bright colors you used on your map! I think this is a great and interesting topic for fourth graders.

  3. Very organized and easy to read. May want to think of some more advanced activities for 4th graders. Maybe some more interactive videos than someone talking as well, but it's a good way to get the facts across. Maybe let groups in the class pick an animal and make their own videos. Great job.

  7. I really love the look of your concept map! I think it is really clean looking and the pictures are great. I like how you included videos too because children would always rather watch something that be told about it and it will keep their attention longer too! The facts on the video seem easy enough for a child to remember but they are also important interesting facts! The maps are also very interesting! Great job!!

  9. I really like your concept map. I would maybe use this lesson as a field trip to the zoo to let the kids learn by seeing how the animals interact in person. Kids love going to the zoo or at least I did when I was a kid. Good Job.

  12. I LOVE IT! Rainforest animals have always been interesting to me as well. I think that this topic is great for elementary school students. Both videos were great! Your map is well laid out and very colorful. Such a great job!

  14. The concept map is very easy to read. It is also very fun. I know for a fact that kids would love this. I love the links to the map because it gives the children activities to do and more information to learn. i know the kids would really love this lesson. I LOVE THIS CONCEPT MAP!!!!!!

  15. i loved the idea, your map is very neat and organized. i loved how you used the videos. any student will pay much more attention to a video then anything else, and what kid doesnt want to learn about animals. great job

  16. Your concept map was very interesting, I've always been interested in Rainforest Animals. The links were great and I think kids will enjoy the videos of the tigers! Overall, your concept map was very cute and very well organized!!

  17. I really like your concept map. It is creative and easy to read. I think the overview video you posted would be very helpful for your students to get excited about the lesson. I think the website with the tiger is very helpful and neat for your students to be able to see. I also like the extra activities you included. Very good project!
